Automatic transmission fluid service has been a hot topic for engineers, drivers and shops since the 1940s, today is no different. But, some key factors have changed. Vehicles are lasting longer and traditional transmission services often are neglected or not economically feasible for the driver of a high-mileage vehicle. The best option for some vehicles and drivers is ATF Refresh. First, old ATF is extracted through the dipstick tube or filler hole. Second, the same amount of fresh fluid is replaced. The ATF Refresh process is repeated during the next four to six oil changes.
